CEREC: Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic

One of the most exciting new services we offer at our Rock Hill Dentist office is the single visit or same-day crown, onlay or inlay. In the past, most of these restorations took 2 visits with a 2-3 week time period where you wore a temporary restoration until the permanent one came back from the lab. With the CEREC system, we are able to create a virtual tooth using the latest computer technology. We then custom design and create a new restoration in a single visit. These all porcelain restorations look terrific and provide added strength and stability to the remaining tooth structure. While not the best option in all cases, we can use the CEREC system in most cases where larger restorations are needed.

The CEREC Procedure

The beauty of a CEREC restoration is just that – its beauty. Unlike silver dental fillings, CEREC fillings or restorations are made of tooth-colored ceramic (porcelain) so they look natural. A CEREC procedure requires less time, less drilling, fewer injections, and consists of three steps.

  1. Exam and Preparation – Your dentist examines your teeth, decides on the preparation method, and starts prepping your teeth (removing the tooth decay).
  2. Optical Impression – An optical impression (picture) of the prepared tooth is taken.
  3. Restoration Creation – Your dentist uses the CEREC machine to design and create your tooth filling, dental crown, or veneers, right in the office.
